Every state and country has a primary organization where a ton of insurance information could be obtained.  For instance, in the United States, each state has an insurance department, which is the organization responsible for establishing regulations and overseeing insurance companies within that state to make sure they are following the rules and regulations that have been developed.  However, a state insurance department offers more, such as information for consumers, agents, and insurance companies.  For foreign insurance, much of the same information could be found on the official government website for individual countries.

Without doubt, these organizations are extremely beneficial and each one has a critical responsibility to insurers, as well as consumers.  For instance, a state insurance department or foreign government website is dedicated to providing a wealth of information, specifically in safeguarding anyone involved with or affected by insurance.

As far as insurance companies, these organizations oversee operations to ensure statutory obligations are being fulfilled and that insurers are promoting honest and affordable policies.  These organizations also provide consumers with invaluable information so when buying insurance they are being offered honesty, integrity, and fairness along with the right type and amount of coverage.

Each state insurance department is a part of the federal government whereas insurance information found on foreign countries would fall under various government entities.  Therefore, all of the regulations being uphold and monitored have been set by people in high places.  As an example, for insurance within the United States, insurance departments are provided with specific state and federal laws pertaining to different aspects of the insurance business so if they fail to do their job in making sure agents and companies do their job, someone pays.  Much is the same for insurance overseas in that the controlling government establishes regulations and then enforces regulations.

One of the primary responsibilities for a state insurance department and foreign governments is to regulate and examine all insurance companies and other related operations that conduct business in that particular state or country.  For regulations, this would cover a long list of things such as agent licensing, agent examinations, company affair examinations, foreign insurer admittance, rate approval for property, liability, and automobile insurance, ratings, claims, practice investigation, complaint investigations, and policy form approval.

As you can see, both the state insurance department and country governments carry a very heavy load.  To make sure insurers are following the law and that consumers are being provided with appropriate insurance services and products, these professionals take the job very seriously.  People can visit the state insurance department or government site for the country of interest and find categories broken down for insurers versus consumers, which are full of excellent information about important insurance issues.

In addition to information found on these websites, it is common to find various links whereby consumers could review other consumer complaints, as well as actions taken against a particular insurance agency or company.  Other links would make it possible to look at an auto rate guide, read about consumer alerts specific to the insurance industry, and search the fraud division, read press releases and notices, and much more.  For insurers, the state departments and foreign government sites are also beneficial, offering up to date information on regulations, continuing education, guidelines for the different types of insurance, and much more.
